Look Good Feel Better - Cancer Care In A Shipping Container Conversion

Every now and then, there is a project contained within a shipping container conversion that does more than just build a structure. One of the best examples of this is the cancer charity Look Good Feel Better's road trip around New Zealand in a shipping container. The project brought together 10 great companies to provide 'Feel Better' classes for people who are living with cancer.

Cancer has touched nearly everyone in some way and it is so important to find ways to support people who are dealing with the challenges of living with the difficult disease. Boyd PR was a driving force behind the project and with the support of their partners, the project was able to travel over 4500 kms and assist 420 people in 21 towns across the country. All of this was facilitated inside of a 40 foot shipping container conversion in just four months of travelling.

This project was so successful it was featured in magazines like M+AD and other media sources.

"For the project, Boyd PR assembled a who's who of New Zealand companies made up of Mazda NZ, shipping container specialists Royal Wolf, Sistema Plastics, BP, Farmers and Mitre 10. A diverse group of transport companies, including PBT, Pacifica Shipping, Bluebridge, and South Island stalwarts Brosnan Transport Ltd, helped transport the container around New Zealand for free." M+AD reported in August of last year.

Inspiring Positivity With A Shipping Container Conversion

This partnership between was about more than promotion. It was about helping people who are living with the everyday challenge of a serious illness. It is estimated that every day, 60 people in New Zealand will learn that they have cancer. Although there is a great deal of medical assistance available to these people, there is a stunning lack of non-medical support. The Look Good Feel Better project was aiming to fill this gap as best as they could.

An important part of cancer recovery and treatment is keeping a positive mindset despite the devastating effects that it can have on a person and their loved ones. One of the biggest non-medical challenges that cancer patients face is accepting their physical changes that happen over the course of their treatment. Many people feel a loss of self-confidence when their physical appearance changes due to chemotherapy and the effects of the disease.

Of course, the path to recovery is not just about appearances. It is also about laughter and a positive mind in light of the difficult path they must follow. The cancer charity wants to share workshops with people to help build that positivity and revive the happiness that is so important in life, regardless of a person's position.
